More about Andrea

Andrea Herskowitz-Henderson, therapist, bringing a welcoming and supportive presence

I began my clinical path at New York University's school of social work in 2012. I received a life's worth of inspiration from the community there. For the next four years, I learned the ropes of administrative leadership with a unique senior community advocacy program where on any given day I would either be completing grant reports or dancing merengue outside our office in the housing projects! This piece of my history as a mental health clinician continues to show up in how I view lifelong personal growth and appreciation for getting old.

Upon moving to California, I had the dual transition of becoming a mom and shifting into the meaningful work of private practice. All the vulnerabilities of parenthood and postpartum challenges living away from our communities of origin brought many new insights into my work with clients. It eventually led me to a certification in perinatal mental health and more sensitivity to the experience of being estranged from one's original landscape.

In my personal life I'm continually engaging in my own mind-body-spirit practices which deeply influence my work with clients. I know intimately the experiences of anxiety, overwhelm, & depressive emotions from my formative years. It's this personal touch that gives me the ability to trust the deeper intelligence of each of my clients.

What does it mean to work with a holistic psychotherapist?

Holistic psychotherapy honors the complexity and richness of your life by taking into account all of the patterns of mind, body, emotions, and relationships. What makes Regrounding Therapy unique is the added integration of a psychodynamic lens. We explore unconscious patterns & early life events that continue to shape your present life. As we keep connecting more meaning from the past, you will feel more in touch with life today and feel clearer about why some things have felt so out of control.

As a certified integrative mental health provider I can also bring insights and support related to your gut, brain, and body connection when appropriate and if desired.

One adjunctive branch of my practice is ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. This is an emerging and clinically-researched treatment that goes into a more experiential realm of therapy. My offering of KAP reflects my therapeutic style and philosophy: Appreciating the sacredness of the human journey while staying rooted in evidence-based practice.
